Judge Gregory C. Blackwell
Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals

(last updated September 6, 2024)

Meet my family: Joanna (my wife of twenty-three years), and our two children, Penelope and James.

Who am I?

I'm a judge serving on the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals in Tulsa. There are twelve such judges in Oklahoma. Six serve in Oklahoma City and six in Tulsa. We are selected through the politically independent Judicial Nominating Commission and appointed by the Governor. We serve six-year terms and are subject to a state-wide retention ballot.

Why did I make this site?

I believe in transparency in government. Citizens should have access to relevant information about all candidates for public office. I'm a voter, just like you. When information about a candidate seeking my vote is difficult to find, it's frustrating. This site exists to compile the work I do for the Court in one place. The Opinions page links to every case over which I have authored an opinion and the opinion deciding the case. Elections are important. I hope this site is helpful to you in your decision-making process.

What makes me a good judge?

I am fiercely independent, intelligent, and deliberative. Our task on the Court is, above all, to get the outcome of the case before us right for the litigants. I take that responsibility very seriously and will never allow anything other than a fair application of the relevant law to the particular facts of a case to determine my vote. I also understand that our opinions provide valuable guidance to trial judges, attorneys, businesses, and the public at large. For this reason, I work tirelessly on every case to ensure the work of our Court serves each of these communities.
